We has lots of fun with the project adn we're kind of sad that it's finished. We learned how to save electricity, water and energy. And we heard that we saved the most. Even the smaller students are able to save... somehow. And we are proud of our selves for being able to teach them how. Other schools have even been told to be more like us!

Well the project was very funny experience. We saved electricity more than any other school. We did lot of things to save electricity, water, and energy. Most important thing is to do things for it, not to be lazy and let others do the work. It wasn´t so easy in 2011 year. Teachers and lower class students were not caring about it at all so 6th class did the most. The project has layed on our shoulders in 2011. We all, on the 6th class loved the project. It would be fun to continue the project. The village was very proud of us and said that the other schools should do the same.

50/50 project is ending. We had fun with this saving project. We saved more than any other schools, so that means: WE WERE THE BEST!! Year 2010 was best year to save. Last year there was some kids who started to waste warm water to warm HANDS!!?? We are now on the 6th class and next year we go to the secondary school and because 5th class can't to make other ones to save
it not going to continue...

50/50 Project is going bad. Teachers and lower class students forgot to put lights off, and they are keeping thermostates on. It went well last year. Eweryone knew what to do, now when we are oldest class its hard to watch that ewery student is saving electricity because they are only 6 students on 6th class. The project depends on us and when we leave the school, they will be on their own and that wont go well.

We haven't done much, but all that I remember so far is us putting notes in every classroom, that say: "Don't keep the water running! P.S. Your NOT supposed to warm up by keeping your hands under warm water!!" The last part is because some student has been doing it. We don't believe, that our school will 'survive' after we, the 6th class, have gone to the 7th class. We are kind of the head of this project these days.

We haven't done anything important last week, but still we check lights often and be sure that thermostate is not using too much electricity. The new student is warming his hands under the water what makes us angry to him, but we are trying to teach him to save water / electricity.

We have been planning a day without electricity. We are going to have it on the 11.10. We can't use any electricity on the whole day. We are going to eat outside with the reservists of Laihia. But we need light to study, so we'll have to bring a candle, a flashlight or a hurricane lamp. We all hope that this day will work out allright.

The 5th class was measuring the temperature and light. The reasults looked good. They were little better than in the spring. We have rememberd to put lights off. Water has been rememberd to be use less. And we haven' t left the water running. Classes 1-4 has always kept the lights on. We are trying to get them into the project with us. Always if we notice the lights on for no reason, we put them off. We always tell them not keep them on, if they don' t really need them. If ther is a termostate somewhere too high temperature, we put it to a lower temperature.

Our trip to Björköby

We left from the shcool at about 8.30. When we arrived to Raippaluoto, we first went to pick up our tour guide. In the bus, she explained us a few things about Raippaluoto, like that the water level rises 1cm a year. Then we left te bus and went under the Raippaluoto bridge. After that, we went back to the bus and drove to a forrestpath. It was about 0.8 km long. We walked to a wooden tower. Then we climbed to the top of the tower and looked at the virw while our tour guide was telling us about it. Then we walked back to the bus and came back home. It was a very fun and educational trip.

SAVING IS IMPORTANT!

Here is our project about saving water.

It says:

Be a good person and do something!

There are lots of things in the world that that you can change.

You could for example save water, electricity and heat.

Patch your leaking pipes, because leaking pipes waste water.

If you have a leak, you should check the other pipes, too.

Here are some tips for saving water:

- Patch your pipes.

- Collect rainwater.

- Don´t waste water.

If you observe these tips, you will get (or should get) smaller waterbills. =)

In our picture we describe us water consumption of years 2009

and 2010 with drops.

For example: January 2010 we have saved 33.0% of since year 2009.

And in November we have saved just a little bit,

because our school field was frozen. In our picture one drop is 10%.

Throughout the year of 2010 we have saved 36,2%.

That picture means that we have to save on electricity and the world. We all must save electricity at home too, not only at school. There is spring coming. That means we must save more electricity than before. Savings that we have made are not just for the victory, they are for the world! We have done lot of things to save electricity for example use less lamps.

This is poster of our school electricity use for years 2009-2010. We have been saving a lots of electricity between 2009-2010. A thunderbolt in our project means 1000KWH. In 2009 we have used 73000KWH, and in 2010 we have used 2000KWH less electricity. And thats all about it. To be continued!

Our school has saved a lot of electricity, heat and water during this project. Telling the smaller pupils about our project and putting "posters" on the class walls has propably effected the saving the most. The comfort level has stayed about the same, but sometimes it's a bit cold. We older pupils remember quite well to put the lights off etc. , but we sometimes have to remind the younger pupils. Sometimes you could even say, that the pupils need to remind the teachers sometimes (EXEPT JYRKI!!)

We have been doing a lot of the same things with other schools, like putting stickers on the ligth switches with school benviure. And we have been measuring temreature and ligth with Länsimetsän koulu and school benviure. It would be nice if the other schools would blog more about the experiences that they have had with the energy saving project.

At home I have switched off unnecessary lights and turned my TV off if I'm not watching it. I've said to my family that we should save more energy. We have reduced heating and used the fireplace more often - and the whole family wears woollen socks when it's cold. ;)
We also use the microwave and the electric kettle because they use less energy than the electric stove. Even my 4-year-old sister has learned to turn off the tap when she's brushing her teeth. :D

At home we have saved it that way, we have not used so much "unnecessary" lights. We have reduced the PC being. And the shower may not exceed 5 minutes, because in that time had timeenough to wash out quite well and did not go so much water, then ! .... I´ve tried to save my best for this 50/50 project. I always turn the lights off before I leave the house and/or my room. I don´t play so much videogames, such as Wii, Playstation and the computer. When I brush my teeth, I don´t leave the water running. I even have to tell my brother sometimes to put the water off... My family doesent use the car for short distances. We only use it for long trips. Also, we always check the heat in our house, so that the heat isn´t too high. And if it is, we lower it. So this is what I´ve done for the 50/50 project, and I´ll keep doing it!

How I and my parents are helping the project at home

I don't play with playstation so much I used to. We don't use lights so much as before. This project is very nice. And we watch tv less than before. We don't drink coffee so much than before. It saves electricity. My favourite thing in this project is to help nature and earth. It is a new good thing.And I don't left water running. My home is very save and I like nature.

November;
Now in January, we got to know our saving results from November.Our use of water had drained in too big readings. We had saved only 7,4% , that´s much less than on the earlier months... But we have succeeded on saving electricity and heat, and our visit to Stormossen went well, and we learned new things about sorting waste.

Something new, part 2

...We got our own thermometer from Vaasan sahko, that shows the temperature inside and outside. You can note, that we´ve been saving, because it´s much cooler in every classroom, but not so cold, that we would freeze :) . On the moment, our classrooms average heat is around 21*c. Our plans are to go on the 20th of December to Stormossens waste management department in hope, that we can learn something new, fun and useful.

October 19th;
We were interviewed by the journalist Hanna Kleemola from the Kyronmaa/Pohjankyro newspaper. We told her about our measuring-gadgets that we measure the heat, light and electricity. And we also told about naming the light swiches and about getting the towelracks in to the classrooms. And now we have them!
November 9th;
We were interviewed once again but this time by the Nette-magazine. We told them about the same things... And some of us were interviewed personally!... To be continued... Tomorrow... =)

On the energysavingweek we investigated the electric devices at home
The water kettles were used 68 times. We were using the saunas 45 hours altogether. We used the computers 170 hours on the weekend, and 340 hours on the weekdays. There are 30 computers in the 5-6 class homes. We used TV 170 hours on the weekend and 390 hours on the weekdays. There are 39 TV:s in the 5-6 class homes. We used the electric stove and the oven 55 hours on the weekend and 46 hours on the weekdays.
Useless things in our homes are for example:
The radio, the breadgrill, the sewing machine, the blender and the electric knife. =)

We have taken the temperature a week before and this week so that we could compare the results. Some people have been complaining, that it´s cold, even it is +21 degrees in each classroom. We´ve been taking care about the classrooms ventilation. We´ve also been freshening the classrooms with fastventilation for 5 min. And keep those windows open! We don´t have unnecessary lights on, thanks to naming the lightswiches. And we made memorising notes in the sportshall for the evening users, so the lights wouldent be on the whole night. The collectingpaper points have been doing well and there is less energywaste. To be continued... ;)

Etelä-Pohjanmaa's energyoffice has made us an energyreport, witch shows us the waste of the electricity, oil, water and trash compared to the other schools. We have tried to use less lights in our school. We have made paper collection points in every classroom. We also made info signs above the trashbins, so that everyone knows what to put in every bin. We have measured nearly every electric devices waste of electrissaty. We have been able to lower the temperature in every room in our school by 2 to degrees or even more.

Things that we have done so far: We have been measuring the light and heat. We have turned the radiators to lower heat. We have been reducing the use of lights and use of water. We are trying not to use elecricity so much, and we have gone to see and learned about the schools heating and elecricity systems. We also went to see the boiler-room. We have been keeping the blinds open, so we wouldent need to keep the lights on all the time. We don´t use our school computers very much that we would save energy. We have been naming the lightswitches, so that we don´t need to blink the lights to find the right one. We have kept the doors closed, so that the heat wouldent escape. Also every time we wash our hands, we do it fast enough, that we wouldent use so much water. So that´s most of the things we have done so far for saving energy, water and electricity.

We started the energy saving project 8.4.2010 so far we have done measurements of the light and tempreture and also we have counted the radiators windows and doors the temprature was a bit high so we turned it a bit lower and also everything else and we noticed that we are saving alot of energy. we took a tour to the heating system, the fusebox and air vontalation.
We have planned that every class starts recycling things like paper
We have had a bit of problems when some of our class boys have just been listening to music instead of doing work, An other problem is to write in English when we didnt know some words like fusebox.
This project has been cuite intresting and a nice expenience.Thanks to this project we have saved alot of energy at school and at home also many people in our class has been stopped playing on the computer and went outside instead.

1. Energiahanke käynnistettiin 8.4.-10. Tähän mennessä on tehty valon ja lämmön mittauksia, ja on laskettu koulun ovet, ikkunat ja patterit. Lämpöä on mitattu koulun eri paikoista. Kun lämpö oli liian korkea sitä laskettiin ja energiaa on kulunut vähemmän. Lämmön laskeminen on auttanut oppilaiden työskentelyä ja on muutenkin helpompi olla. Tutustuimme huoltoyhtiön isännöitsijän kanssa koulun eri energia pisteisiin esim.Lämmitys-ja sähkö järjestelmiin, raittiinilman ja sähkön siirto menetelmiin.

2. Keväälle on suunitelmissa että laitamme jokaiseen luokkaan sellaset roskikset johon laitetaan VAIN KERÄYSPAPERIT ei muita roskia...

3. Mellä on ollut pientä ongelmaa kun luokkamme "nimeltämainitsemattomat" pojat kuunteli vain musiikkia puhelimesta, kun olisi pitäny mitata lämpötiloja ja valonkirkkautta...

4. Tämä hanke on ollut jo alusta asti hyvin mielenkiintoinen ja mukava kokemus, ja tämän hankkeen avulla olemme käyttäneet jo nyt paljon vähemmän vettä ja sähköä. Monet ovat kotonakin muistaneet olla säästeliäämpiä kuin ennen. Olemme myös vähentäneet esimerkiksi pelikoneilla palaamista kotona.

We started the energy saving project by studying our schools elecric and heating where we ware told about the school boiler there is a water pump and loads of pipes the pipes get the water all over the school to heat the radiators and water to the taps. Next we got to the electric cabinet there was lots of fuses after that we went upstairs to the air conditioner then we went back to the classroom. after that we discussed about what we saw.
